Teacher’s Tips: How To Prepare For Parent Teacher Night
Parent Teacher Night is a unique opportunity for parents and teachers to get to know each other and form a tight team to better help the students. Make sure you take advantage of this particular event!
Teachers will benefit from the following checklist of ways to prepare for the Parent Teacher Night.
You should be sure to display your awards, degrees, and any other achievements. Don’t be modest, as parents want to know your credentials!
You have probably seen the credentials of doctors and dentists displayed on their walls, so why wouldn’t you display yours? This is not bragging. The parents will feel more confident in you knowing your credentials.
Parents need to know that you are ready to teach their children, so be prepared to discuss your own training and background. A good introduction of yourself will be very useful.
Parents should not be expected to do their own research on your credentials, so if you don’t tell them what you’ve done, they won’t know. You must be able to sell yourself, and must stick to the relevant points that qualify you to teach their children. Small tidbits, such as having once been a camp counselor, can usually be left out.
In today’s world, children must be more technologically savvy than their parents may be. Parents will look to you to prepare their children to survive in a world that relies on technology. Be sure you are comfortable with appropriate technology, and if possible, use this during the evening. This will go far in demonstrating that you are ready and able to help their children compete in the modern world.
If you are very comfortable with technology, chances are you’ll come across as being both down to earth and very up to date. Just be yourself, be prepared to showcase your accomplishments, and enjoy the night!
